Shimano XT MTB Skewer
I ride the Easton EX90 XC carbon fiber wheels on both my 29er and 26er mountain bikes.
While I love the Easton carbon fiber wheels, the skewers suck, big time. What I mean is the Easton skewers (and MANY other brands) do not clamp down very well.
- I’ve had the Easton skewers let the wheel slip out when my bike is in the bike rack on top of my car, letting it flop around wildy.
- I’ve had the Easton skewers let the wheel slip out after a crash.
- I’ve had the Easton skewers let the wheel slip out doing a bunny hop.
My safety is worth a lot more to me than saving money on some sh*tty skewer.
What works? The Shimano XT skewer / quick release lever @AMAZON. The difference in clamping quality and force is evident as soon as I installed them. They work, and keep working.
Don’t mess around with your safety. Get the Shimano skewers.
On a road bike where speeds are even higher, get a Shimano DuraAce skewer @AMAZON, or Campagnolo or Fulcrum skewer @AMAZON.
